Some people like to go to the beach, where they can play in the ocean, enjoy some seafood and relax in warm weather. Some people like to go to the mountains, where they can play in the snow, see the beautiful valleys and relish the delightfully chilly weather. There are also people who like to travel to urban hots pots where they can take part in some shopping, as well as enjoying the various cultural and entertainment facilities in such locations. However, there are a rare few, who wish to push themselves, so that they can find beauty in one of the most inhospitable locations of the planet, the deserts. There are a number of places which can offer these daring souls the kind of experience they are looking for. However, the deserts are not called inhospitable for no reason. To have a vacation in this place can give travelers some experiences no other place on the planet can even come close to, but preparation for the same is extremely necessary.

The very first consideration to make is the climate of a desert region. Many people envision an almost never-ending ocean of sand which stretches from one horizon to the next with some of the hottest temperatures on the face of the earth. However, deserts are not known for the extreme heat of daytime temperatures, but an extreme difference in the daytime and night time temperatures. It is this difference which a vacationer needs to be prepared for. The days in a desert can get punishingly hot, therefore wearing clothing which allows the skin to breathe while covering it, is very necessary. However, a vehicle with a fully functional air conditioning unit is the first line of defense in this case. Temperatures could go all the way up to over a 100 degrees Fahrenheit; therefore this system will be the key to travelling comfortably in the desert.

A box full of supplies is also a must. These supplies include ample quantities of water for each person, should the trip require more than a day, since even a few hours exposure to the dry desert air could cause dehydration. Medical supplies, especially those related to traveling in heat, including strong sunscreens with high SPF ratings, are also important. Should the trip involve travelling at night or in the evening, carry some protective warm blankets since the deserts lose heat very rapidly and night time temperatures can drop faster than the human body can adapt. There should be enough food also available at all times to comfortably sustain the people in the vehicle, should there be a breakdown.

A well maintained vehicle, with a full tank of gas, full coolant and oil levels and charged batteries, is necessary. Stay on the roads at all times and resist any notion of driving off onto the dunes. There should be spare tires, fluid for radiators and all supplies available to ensure that the vehicle is up and running before even starting the journey to ensure that everyone stays safe and can focus on enjoying the journey.
